I had a great time with my first session!
Sadly, Branch the Dryad did not survive long, but it got my excited to try with another Wildling! The game is easy to learn and the world lets the player's imagination stretch a bit with the amazing art and prompts included. The Wall is a really cool way to track your journey and leaves you with something that is memorable.
The layout is also incredible! I especially love the 9-tile diamond realm maps.
Highly recommend!
This game is awesome! It feels very rewarding to travel across the realm, defeating enemies with such simple mechanics. The sketching element of the game was what I enjoyed the most—I ended up slaying the Saint in the Marsh! - Didn't think I'd survive that long. Definitely a load of replay value with the treasures!
This is mighty praise from a fellow creator. I'm actually a little in shock because the Saint seems to be the bane of many adventurers and you managed to defeat her! You gotta pat yourself on the back for that one for sure.
Having played one of Brite's other games Oyasumi Wonderland I was really excited to try this one out. Despite being very tired when I played Circle of the Silvernum Sword the game was easy to get through and start playing! Brite does an amazing job invoking the setting for you to imagine in while keeping the game small!
Over the course of the night I played two characters using Roll20, neither which was able to make it past the first realm but was easy to start a new run! The game plays fast, making it a great pick up and play solo experience when you don't have a lot of time and wanting to get some rolls in, and also having a lot of replayability! I think CotSS makes a great entry point for those new to solo ttrpgs or people who tend to think by drawing over writing while still keeping a solo journaling experience (also works just as well for those that prefer to journal instead of drawing).
If you want to check out my playthrough of it you can watch the VOD here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2691025352
Thank you so much for playing, Kyward. Everyone the youtube vid of their playthrough is here:
It was so great to be able to see Kywards primo journaling skills at work. They also used a novel approach to the playsheet as well.I had a great time playing this today!
My first character pretty much died right away on her first hex, but I had a blast drawing that Kelpie and telling her (very short) story.
Tried again with a different wildling type and had a much better time, still cut tragically short after exploring 3/5 realms.
The rules of this game are very easy to pick up and understand. At 22 pages, the entire PDF is a quick read. The gameplay is fast-paced and dynamic, and a total blast. Combat is player-focused, so no need to keep track of complicated calculations for turns and hits and such. Simple to learn, tricky to master.
You could journal more and write more of the story as you go if you wanted to, but I really enjoyed using the doodles on the "wall" to tell the story. I decided to go clockwise and use different colors for each realm, so I feel you can follow the story pretty well even with so much going on. Lots of fuel for the imagination here!
You can watch the VOD here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2687559935 Would highly recommend this to game to anyone, but especially to people who enjoy doodling and/or are new to solo TTRPGs as I feel like the game isn't so intimidating to get into.
This was so great! I loved getting to see your adventure in real time! I thought the decision to use stickers along with your art was so smart!
This was so much fun to play test! When I allowed myself to really slow down and immerse myself in the setting and the character I was developing, I was surprised by how emotional it could get. Brite-Palette always goes all out with illustrations and stylish flair, but I was really taken by surprise with the detail put into each of the map designs. There really is something brilliant hidden in here!
It was great how you decided to add so many asides that really delve into the character you decided to play. It's great how the Wall can reflect a personality and viewpoint. Even deciding to use graph paper was really keen.
