"The Goddess Yaya has given us human forms for just a few days - So we’ve got to make the most of it, Okay?"

🐟

Shark Girls Run the Food Stall?! is a one-page solo restaurant sim tabletop RPG inspired by media like Touhou's Mystia's Izakaya, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, and Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.

It's a cozy isekai - that isn't an isekai.  Roleplay as aquatic creatures, male and female, granted human forms so that they can pursue their dreams of cooking at the biggest celebrations on land. Will your crew coast along with exceptional customer service or aim for a major splash with a mouth-watering menu? You'll need to use all of their skills to reach the legendary 5-star rating by day seven - then it's back to the briny deep...

To play you need:

  • The instruction pamphlet
  • A pen and paper
  • A standard deck of cards (analog or digital)
  • A basic calculator

And your wave-breaking imagination! Chronicle this fish-out-of-water tale your way, or use the included printable template to help things along.

This game is legit cute as damn hell. Brite, I decided to feature it in my RPG Jam retrospective and I will likely play this more in the future. It is wicked to see a lot more cozy rpgs that capture games like Cooking Mama and Style Savvy to name a few.

Also the rival chef I created was giving such Gary Oak vibes!

Game is mentioned around the 12:59 marker.

Wow wow WOW! Thank you so much for featuring my game in your review video. You had to go through a major marathon of games to talk about as succinctly as possible. And there were a LOT of choices this year to sift through. I'm so glad you took the time to play mine and liked it. And that you were feeling some of the storied vibes, the game really shines when played in journaling fashion.

I love how everyone gets to see their rival differently.

You've really made my weekend!

I am happy I made your weekend Brite. I appreciate the work you put into the game! I'll be sure to check out your other games in the future!

Please let me know if you do and how you enjoy them! I am really glad to have a Black queer voice taking a look at my work, it makes me feel proud to do what I do in the way that I do it.

This has such a nice vibe to it and you've used the deck of cards with such efficiency! The art is awesome and the cozy mood reminds me of Studio Ghibli and Steven Universe. The care for detail really gets across to the reader this is truly a labor of love!

Loved it! Just finished my first playthrough of this adorable little culinary adventure. Our food stall ended being more of a high-class pop-up bar because, by some twist of fate, I consistently generated nothing but cocktails. A rival chef harassed us day and night. In the end, the stall made $1590 at the Moon Maiden's Holiday, which made me laugh when I considered that these shark girls have to return to the sea and might not have understood what the money was for in the first place; maybe they were just accepting it to be courteous.

I am so glad to hear you say this and to hear about your playthrough! I love that kind of thing. And to hear that someone else had odd happenings with visit events. During my own playthrough my rival flirted with everyone and I was just like, "What is even HAPPENING?!" lol. I'm sorry yours was such a pest, but I bet it kept things interesting. And thinking of your trio just politely accepting the shiny things people kept giving them in exchange is hilarious. You've made my evening!

The art is phenomenal and what you've managed to do with a deck of cards is incredible! It's an adorable and exciting game that seems to lean into curating a vibe and immersing the player. creating a playlist to go with the game shows just how much thought you've put into it all! lovely :)

Yeah! I always appreciate a strong vibe and perspective in a game so I enjoy bringing that to the fore. I mentioned to someone else that this game is a bit like a tapas or small dish you'd get in an izakaya. A pop of something to put a smile on your face and get you at ease. Thank you so much!

This is a cute "game", I do like the art.

I wish you numbered the pages. Market your menu is the objectively best choice. When I finally started playing I quickly realized I was not going to get to make any choices. I was not a fan of sinister semester either for similar reasons. You have nice ideas and pretty art, but I want a game I can sink my teeth into (pun intended). When push comes to shove this is not a game. You use the word choice exactly one time. This "game" is flipping cards and seeing what happens. Either give a degree of control over what the cards do or give me some control over which cards will be drawn.

You are talented and you can do what ever you want. If you want to keep making things like this I will not stop you. I personally don't gel with what you do and that is fine. Nothing is for everyone. Good luck.

"I will not stop you" is a pretty rude and patronizing choice of words, considering you are in absolutely no way an authority over this creator- or anyone for that matter.
